Starting today and lasting until May 31st, the Ooty - Mettupalayam road has been converted into a one-way route to accommodate the surge in tourist traffic during the summer season. Anticipating a significant increase in visitors, authorities have implemented customary traffic changes to manage congestion effectively.
Under the new traffic arrangement, the Ooty - Coonoor road will operate as a one-way route. Vehicles traveling from Mettupalayam to Ooty are directed to use the Coonoor route, while those heading from Ooty to Mettupalayam must pass through Kothagiri.
Additionally, tourist buses, vans, and maxicabs, with the exception of government buses from Cuddalore to Ooty, will be directed to stop at Golf Links Road, HBF. From there, tourists can utilize the government-operated round bus to access various tourist attractions in Ooty.
For vehicles approaching Ooty from Masinagudi via Kallati, a designated route through Thalaikunda, Kozhipannai, and Pudumandhu to Stepan Church is established. From Stepan Church, tourists heading to the botanical garden can proceed via Vandisolai.
Similarly, tourist vehicles arriving from Coonoor to Ooty will park at the Aavin parking lot. Tourists can then utilize the government round bus to access popular destinations, including the Ooty Botanical Garden.
Furthermore, heavy vehicles, excluding essential services such as milk, petroleum, and cooking gas, will not be permitted within Ooty city limits from 6 am to 8 pm until the end of the month.
These measures aim to streamline traffic flow and enhance the overall tourist experience during the peak summer season.
