Cyclone Remal Expected to Form in Bay of Bengal!

Posted on: 23/May/2024 3:38:39 PM

Sea surface temperatures in the south Bay of Bengal have been 2-3°C warmer than usual, creating conditions ripe for cyclone formation, according to climate scientist Roxy Mathew Koll. A low-pressure area in the Bay has moved northeast and is expected to develop into Cyclone `Remal` by May 25 morning, the IMD reports. The cyclone is projected to intensify, reaching the Bangladesh and West Bengal coasts by May 26 evening with winds of 100-120 kmph. Koll noted the persistent high temperatures and the Madden Julian Oscillation as key factors, though rapid monsoon progression could limit the cyclone`s development to a monsoon depression instead.
