The complaint of flu is a regular visitor leading to fever, cold, and cough. This, in turn, leads to severe throat irritation and itch. The agony is unbearable especially when on the job or even while relaxing! Being highly contagious the nuisance and pain is even more!

Here are some cures for flu – sore throat:

Gargle – Gargling frequently is a regular step to be taken. Take a glass of lukewarm water with a pinch of salt. Gargle with mouthfuls of water swirling for some time. This improves the blood flow in the affected region while washing the infection away. This will bring relief.

Take warm beverages – Take cinnamon tea or ginger twist tea, or lemon honey tea. These will soothe as they travel down the throat.

Adopt soft diet – Steam an apple and take with honey.  Take mashed khichdi or Dhal with crushed vegetables.

Steam – Add a cough suppressant to the stem and inhale. This opens up a sore throat and nasal area and eases breathing.

Take throat soothers – As the throat is severely dry, it may cause numbness. Take cough lozenges, menthol or eucalyptus oil lozenges. Healing will be quicker.

Local heat – A sore throat is indeed painful – especially when hard food is water. Apply a heating pad or a hot pack around the neck.

Analgesics and Antipyretics – Avoid taking any medication without consulting the doctor. Taking own prescription might be somewhat okay for persons without any allergies. They will bring down the fever.

Avoid these – refrain from smoking. Or drinking caffeinated drinks or cold drinks or taking fried food item which may lead to dehydration increasing the soreness.

Avoid outings – Do not go to public places as infections can increase especially as this is a highly contagious one.

Get medical attention – If the condition of a sore throat lasts for more then 5 days, the neck may swell, and the aches may become more severe.
