Antibiotics leads to weight gain, says study

A study published in online journal International Journal of Obesity has said that antibodies may alter Body Mass Index (BMI), resulting in weight gain.
Health records of 163,820 children who were patients of the Geisinger Health System in Pennsylvania were analysed. The children were between 3 and 18 years of age. Body weight and use of antibiotics in the earlier years were taken into account. Results showed that those who had taken antibiotics seven or more times in their childhood weighed more than those who did not.
Your BMI may be forever altered by the antibiotics you take as a child. Our data suggests that every time we give an antibiotic to kids, they gain weight faster over time, said one of the researchers.
