In the month of Thai, the festival of Thaipusam is celebrated when the Pusa Nakshatra joins the full moon. According to Puranas, life originated from water, and Thaipusam marks the day of this significant event. It is believed that Murugan, the deity, experienced the divine fragrance of Valli on Thaipusam.

Devotees celebrate Murugan`s blessings over three days in all temples, with Thiruchendur beach witnessing a surge of worshippers. The temple opens at 1 am, attracting thousands who patiently wait for darshan, enduring an 8-hour wait for regular darshan and 4 hours for a Rs 100 fee darshan. Vehicles stop 4 km before Tiruchendur as devotees embark on a padayatra, many carrying kavadi.

Palani temple also sees a vibrant celebration during Thaipusam, where thousands climb its steps with kavadi. Devotees take a holy dip in Thiruavinankudi and Shanmuganadi from 4 am onwards before having darshan.

In Chennai, devotees from different parts visit the Vadapalani Murugan temple, with a separate queue for seniors and those with children, ensuring a smooth darshan experience.
