Next time, when you go to the Chennai airport, don`t be surprised if you come across a tall tower there!!

This has never happened at the airports across India, but now at the Chennai airport only. We are now talking about the huge 135 feet high tower that has been constructed at the Chennai airport and this is making many heads turn. The tower has been built for the state of art information technology facility purpose.

For the emergency communication between the employees and authorities, walkie- talkie has been used from last year onwards at the Chennai airport. It is at present used in analog frequency mode. It must be taken into account that sometimes due to technical issues links would not be available and even if it was available it would not be clear. The AAI authorities were not satisfied with the link as it would be available only for short distances.

In this scenario, the Chennai airport has decided to implement a modern information technology facility called Trunk Radio service or TMR in digital form. Now for this sake, a new tower of 135 feet height or 40m has been erected at the airport. It is now brought out that the state of art information technology facility would soon be available at the airport in Chennai.

According to some Chennai airport officers, a new information technology has been set up at a cost of Rs 10 crores. They have mentioned that due to new technology from the airport to a distance of 6km around airport walkie talkie services could be used.

It is noteworthy that this new information technology service at the airport would be available fully digital on the European technology called Tetra. The main advantage of this sensational latest technology is that airport authority staff, airport control room officers, ground staff on duty at the airport landing and take- off area including runways could be able to use the service at the same time.

No outsiders would be able to listen to what these people communicate using the walkie-talkie. Till now, no other airports across India have got this superb new information technology.
