Coronavirus infection comes and goes soon and the patient gets recovered well, but what about long Covid complications??

The Coronavirus infection has not gone fully even after more than 2 years and now also many cases get reported across the state of Tamil Nadu. Now, there is an increased prevalence of long Covid-19 among the patients.

The doctors in Chennai have mentioned that the individuals were unable to recognise Covid-19 symptoms in the earlier stage and at the later stage the overall management of the infection would become difficult. After getting recovered from Covid-19 infection, some individuals could have symptoms for up to 4 weeks also. There are chances that the infection could last in a person for months and sometimes after years too.

Common mild symptoms of Covid-19 infection such as fever, fatigue, brain fog, body ache etc would be managed well by a person but these symptoms could result in further complications also.

Chennai Promed Hospital based Dr. Spoorthy Arun expressed her thoughts and spoke about how the hospital has been coming across Covid1-9 related complications like pneumonia, myocarditis,  pneumo-thorax etc. It is known that these are the complications of various organ systems.

Even those without any symptom due to Covid-19 infection could have long Covid complications in them. She asked the persons with symptoms to get diagnosed with procedures like chest X-ray, blood test and other tests etc. For a speedy recovery, post Covid19 rehabilitation is very important.

After the recent increase in the Coronavirus cases in Chennai, the hospitals have been witnessing admissions of long Covid-19 symptoms. The long Covid-19 has been responsible for issues like heart attack, brain fog, mental distress and lung failure etc. This was pointed out by the director of infectious diseases Dr. SubramaniaN Swaminathan of Gleneagles Global Health City in Chennai. He explained that follow up of symptoms even after RT-PCR test negative was important. He concluded that the lack of enough rest and rehabilitation after Covid-19 could increase the existing symptoms and lead to complications etc.

Long Covid-19 on the lungs would lead to several complications and this was as per some pulmonologists in Chennai. Healthy donors would be reduced and this might result in poor organ availability in the future. According to some lung transplant experts it was clear that lung transplants have become more now and this has been a challenge for the doctors.

Consultant pulmonologist Dr. Sindura Koganti belonging to Fortis Hospital explained that Covid-19 complications had resulted in more lung transplants and hence the need to test the patients regularly for the sake of lung transplant requirement. She added that if the patients need for oxygen increaeases every 6 months then periodical lung evaluation is essential.
