Yesterday, 10th July 2022, the state health minister Mr. M. Subramanian revealed that TN has taken steps to include private hospitals in administering booster doses of Covid-19 vaccination free of cost.

He threw light on how there are no plans as of now for imposing lockdown in Chennai and in TN just like in the past because of the fact that the rate of hospitalisation of Covid affected patients was just around 5%. It must be noted that the TN government has taken steps to vaccinate as many as possible to check the spread of novel Coronavirus infection. The health minister was busy inaugurating a special vaccination camp at Thanjavur.

He spoke about how more people have shown interest to get vaccination at the special vaccination camps. The truth is that there has been a lukewarm response to the booster doses administered at various private hospitals in the state. At the government hospitals in TN, the booster doses have been administered for free to various frontline workers. It is worthy to note that a booster dose would cost Rs 386.25 including service charge of Rs 150 at various private hospitals.

The DPH has approached some leading hospitals to waive the service charge for administering the booster vaccination as the public was reluctant to receive the booster dose.  Now, Apollo Hospitals and Kauvery Hospitals in Chennai have agreed to the request made by DPH and these hospitals have been administering booster doses for the public without collecting any service charge.

To increase the booster dose coverage, recently the chief minister Mr. M.K. Stalin and the health minister Mr. M. Subramanian recently took part in a discussion. It is learnt that the medium and small enterprises plus other business houses were asked to ensure that their workers were given booster doses. After the above said meeting, the booster doe coverage has been increasing.
