Just 2 weeks back, Navalur in Chennai reported the first new Coronavirus variant BA 4 and it created panic among the residents.

Now, the city of Chennai and the state of Tamil Nadu have got few persons affected with new Coronavirus variants like BA 4 and BA 5 and this is making sensational news. The new variants have been found in some samples collected from Chennai and from neighbouring districts in Tamil Nadu. This was mentioned by the state health minister Mr. M Subramanian. The presence of new variants has been found in 12 samples out of 150 samples that have been sent for testing at Hyderabad. As many as 4 samples had BA 4 variants and the remaining 8 samples had BA 5 variants.

As per Mr. J. Radhakrishnan, health secretary for the state of TN, all persons have been isolated and are being monitored regularly. He also mentioned that others who came in contact with these affected persons have also been identified and isolated. It must be taken into account that the first patient has recovered fully from the new variant. It is learnt that Chennai had as many as 43 new Coronavirus positive cases and Tamil Nadu had 105 new Coronavirus cases.

It was later brought out by the health secretary that the central government would officially announce the detection of new variants.

The health minister then revealed how the Covid clusters at educational institutions like IIT-M and Sri Sathya Sai University, Poonamallee were contained well now.  From Anna University till Saturday, 23 cases were reported and from VIT in Kelambakkam in Chennai as many as193 cases were reported till Saturday. Not only in the educational institutions, but also in many residential localities in Chennai, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur districts the cases were witnessed.

It is shocking to note that in an apartment in T. Nagar as many as 6 persons have tested Covid-19 positive. This was as per some officers from the health department. The health minister then made it clear that strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols was necessary. It is important to note that the public must be cautious about Omicron that would spread very fast.

Information is that the health department would be conducting a mega vaccination drive on 12th June 2022 and there would be more than 1lakh vaccination camps in Tamil Nadu. It is now said that those persons who are eligible but have not yet received vaccination must make use of this opportunity and get vaccinated.
