Schools are set to reopen tomorrow (1st February)! Teachers and Parents emphasise the release of the detailed guidelines!

All schools in the State of Tamil Nadu are set to reopen on 1st February (Tomorrow, Tuesday).  As detailed guidelines for the functioning of the school are yet to be released, this has created some confusion among the students, parents, and teachers!

Half-yearly vacation for the school students had been declared earlier from 25th December until 2nd January. Subsequently, due to the spread of the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic and its variant Omicron, the half-yearly vacation for the students from the first to the 8th Standard was extended until 10th January.

Subsequently, as the spread of the pandemic intensified, the holidays were declared for all the classes until 31st January!

With the recent trend of decreasing intensity of the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic and its variant Omicron over the last few days, and giving due importance and consideration to the educational well-being of the students, the State Government of Tamil Nadu announced on 27th January that the normal classes for the students from the 1st Standard to the 12th Standard will resume with the full-fledged reopening of all schools from the 1st of February.

After this announcement, there was a circular sent to all the District Primary Education Officers on behalf of the Directorate of School Education.  In this, it mentioned the permission granted to conduct direct classes. As such, all the District Primary Education Officers were asked to undertake all the necessary preparatory tasks strictly following the guidelines against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic to facilitate the normal functioning of the schools from 1st February.

Unauthorised floating misinformation: With the schools all set to reopen on the 1st February, even as there is a prevailing spread of the coronavirus variant Omicron, no detailed guidelines have been released by the State Government of Tamil Nadu so far! Instead, it is mentioned that the guidelines released by the Department of National Disaster Management Commission, released on 26th August last year would still be followed!

As such, information was circulated that with the guidelines as per these old dates, THE STUDENTS doesn`t need to ATTEND THE SCHOOL CLASSES! The respective schools can decide whether to continue the ONLINE classes, However, the District Education Officers and the School Principals and Headmasters have informed that THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED any information on this so far from the State Government Department of School Education!

Students left in confusion! The teachers and parents shared in this regard that the Public Examinations are set to be conducted for the 10th, 11th, & 12th Standards in a few months! The Annual Examinations are scheduled to be conducted for the other classes as well! In this situation, the direct classes must be conducted in schools strictly following clear guidelines! As this is the third wave, accordingly detailed guidelines must be released by the State Government Department of School Education.

The provision that it IS NOT MANDATORY TO ATTEND SCHOOLS HAS CREATED CONSIDERABLE CONFUSION! It is gathered that the concerned department officials themselves have not been given any detailed advisory leads!  As such, they emphasised that the State Governrnment Department of School Education must immediately release the detailed guidelines so that the students can attend the direct classes in schools without any undue apprehensions!
