Every woman must know about these signs of iron deficiency in them!!

Our body functions would be disrupted without iron and iron plays an important role in the health and well being of a person. The oxygen present in the blood is carried to every cell present in the body by iron. Therefore, if the body does not have enough iron then it would not b able to produce enough oxygen carrying red blood cells or RBCs.

Point is that iron is an important component of haemoglobin, a protein present in red blood cells that carries oxygen present in the lungs to and transport it to all parts of the body. This iron deficiency is found in women more when compared to men in their reproductive ages.

The loss of blood during menstruation could lead to iron deficiency in women in their child bearing years. It is said that for a woman between 19 and 50 years of age the daily recommended intake of iron is about 8mg of iron per day.

Various signs that would show that a woman has iron deficiency are

Getting infections frequently:

Fighting infections becomes very tough when the body doesn’t have enough red blood cells. It is said that iron rich foods could help in sustaining the immune function.

Feeling sluggish and exhausted:

We would become tired when we have iron deficiency. Point is that we would not be able to concentrate well. We could feel fatigued when the body has issues carrying oxygen to the cells.

Tongue gets swollen:

The tongue would have swellings and frequent cuts etc. This would reveal that the woman has got iron deficiency.

Restless leg syndrome:

This uncomfortable condition would be present in those women who have iron deficiency. It must be taken into note that due to this the woman would have the urge to move her legs or would have crawling sensations especially in the night time.

Excessive hair loss:

Both hairs as well as skin health of a woman would get affected due to deficiency of iron. The woman would have excess hair fall and her hair would become brittle.

Increased breathing rate:

Oxygen levels would be affected due to low haemoglobin levels. This could lead to increased breathing rates. Even while walking etc, the woman might experience issues in breathing. This sign is an important one and must not be taken lightly

 Headaches:

It is worthy to note that low levels of oxygenated blood reaching the brain could lead to headaches in women.  It is said that this symptom could affect women more.

Heart palpitations:

Another sign in women that could be due to iron deficiency is having erratic heartbeats. Women would have her heart beat abnormally fast. Functioning of the heart could get affected by the poor supply of oxygen and poor haemoglobin.
