Thiruvannamalai Thirukkaarthigai festival: Maha Deepam to be lit tomorrow!

With the famous, traditional and the annual event of the Thirukkaarthigai Deepam Grand Festival presently in progress at the Lord Arunachaleswarar Temple in Thiruvannamalai, the most prominent and the climax event of the lighting of Maha Deepam is scheduled to be performed tomorrow (Saturday, 29th November).

As well-known, this Thirukkaarthigai festival performed in the Lord Arunachaleswarar temple is one of the most acclaimed events in the religious calendar of events!

This grand Deepam Festival for this calendar year 2020 commenced in Thiruvannamalai with the divine flag-hoisting festival on 20th November.

The most prominent and the climax event of the Lighting of the Maha Deepam on top of the 2668 high mountain will be performed at 6.00 PM on Sunday (29th November).

Due to this important and sacred occasion, the temple corridors will be opened in the very early morning and Special Avhishekham, Special Adornment on the deities, and Deeparadhanai will be performed on the Panchamurthys.

Bharani Deepam will be lighted at early morning 4.00 AM in the Artha Mandapam.

Subsequently, Theerthavari will be performed on the idol of Subramanya Swami in the Brahma Theertham.

In the evening, the idols of the Panchamurthys will be places before the Sanctum Sanctorum of the temples main deity, Lord Arunachaleswarar. Subsequently, the idol of Lord Arthanareeswarar, which is taken out only once a year, will be taken out swaying on either side and taken to the temple Kodimaram to offer Darshan to the devotees. During this occasion, Agenda Deepam will be lighted in front of the Sanctum Sanctorum of the Main Deity and at the same time, the sacred Maha Deepam will be right on top of the mountain.

As a preventive measure against the spread of the raging coronavirus pandemic, the devotees ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER THE TEMPLE TOMORROW (SATURDAY, 29TH NOVEMBER)AND HAVE DARSHAN! ALSO, THE DEVOTEES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CLIMB THE MOUNTAIN TO SEE THE LIGHTING OF MAHA DEEPAM.

Further, devotees will not be permitted on the Full Moon Day on the Tamil calendar month of Karthigai tomorrow (Saturday, 29th November) and tomorrow (Sunday, 30th November) while the DEVOTEES ARE NOT PERMITTED TO UNDERTAKE GIRIVAAM (HAVING A WALK AROUND THE BOTTOM OF THE TEMPLE)!
