Light and steady rains in many places in Chennai

On Thursday evening, light rains continued in many parts of Chennai city and this was after brief respite from rains. It must be noted that in the early hours on Thursday Cyclone Nivar made its landfall near Puducherry.
Information is that parts of the Chennai city continued to receive light and steady rains on Thursday evening also. In the last 2 days before that, Chennai received heavy rains are well known. The Cyclone Nivar brought heavy rains to Puducherry and TN when it made landfall near the Union Territory. After the Cyclone Nivar crossed the coast near Puducherry, it weakened into a severe cyclonic storm. This was mentioned by IMD.
On Thursday evening, places such as Egmore, Nungambakkam, Marina plus others like Kodambakkam, Guindy. Chennai city outskirts like Tambaram, Velachery, Medavakkam got light rains yesterday. The GCC has prohibited the onlookers near the sea while high tides were visible. The very severe cyclonic storm Nivar has been responsible for 3 casualties and 3 got injured in TN plus in Puducherry on Thursday. This was reported by IMD.
It is worthy to note that IMD has tweeted about the deep depression Nivar that moved northwards with a speed of 13kmph in the last 6 hours.
