From last year, the combined storage of 4 lakes is up by 100% now

The news that has emerged out is the combined storage of 4 lakes that supplies drinking water to Chennai city has gone over 50%. This has been due to the Krishna water released by AP government plus due to the rains in the catchment areas..

On Thursday, the 4 lakes had a combined storage of 5933 mcft against the total capacity of 11257 mcft. This was as per the date from the Metro Water. Information is that all the 4 lakes are receiving inflows with the Red Hills Lake receiving 971 cusecs of water. In AP, the reservoirs are full now and water is being released to Chennai.

It was brought out by an official belonging to MWD that on Thursday the catchment areas received good rains and there were also rains during the earlier spells. The total capacity of Poondi lake is 3231 mcft and it had 1529 mcft on Thursday.  

Likewise, Cholavaram Lake has a total capacity of 1081 mcft and has 128mcft. Point is that Red Hills Lake has a total capacity of 3300mcft and it has 2094mcft. Another important Lake is Chembarambakkam and it has a total capacity of 3645 mcft. On Thursday, this Chembarambakkam Lake had 2182mcft of water.  

 Till 8:30 am on Thursday, Red Hills received 13cm rainfall and this was according to the date from the RMC Chennai. Other reservoirs like Poondi and Cholavaram received 5cms rainfall each. It must be taken into note that on Wednesday the 4 lakes had combined storage of 5808 mcft.
