If you are a resident belonging to the western suburb or northern suburb of Chennai, then you could feel relieved and happy now.

Hereafter, issues over property registrations would be easily resolved because a new DRO or district registration office is being created now and the place is Tiruvallur district. It is important to note that the new DRO would have 14 sub-registrar offices in Tiruvallur bifurcating Chennai north, Chennai South and Kancheepuram districts.

At present, Rs 1000 crores revenue is got from these 14 sub-registrar offices. This amount is 10% of the total annual income generated by the revenue department.

High value land transactions are being witnessed in the Avadi and Poonamallee sub-registrar offices belonging to the south Chennai is known. It is now brought out that these would be part of Tiruvallur DRO. Point is Red Hills, Ponneri and Gummidipoondi registration offices would be carved out from Chennai north for merging with the neighbouring district.

Information gathered is eight sub-registrar offices functioning in the rural pockets of Tiruvallur including Tiruttani that are part of Kancheepuram DRO would be under the purview of Tiruvallur DRO. Truth is a proposal in this regard is prepared by the department.

The important advantage of separate DRO is there would be fast redressal. For the sake of redressing their grievances, the local public need not have to travel long distances and the public would get benefited.

For issues including guideline value, the people belonging to northern and western suburbs travel to respective DROs in the core city at present. It must be noted that addressing their issues is time consuming as Chennai north and Chennai south DRO’s handle a chunk of sub-registrar offices with high value transactions. This was confirmed by a senior official belonging to the registration department.

Truth is those residing in the western suburbs would be able to travel to Tiruvallur by buses and trains much easier than travelling to Chennai. This was according to Mr. T. Sadagopan, president of TN Progressive consumer centre at Pattabiram. He added that there would be review meetings and the district registrar would take part in these meetings to address the public grievances quickly.
