Right from the burst of the raging coronavirus spread, it has been observed that the prospects of diabetics being attacked by the coronavirus were quite strong. Here are the reasons for the same!

Viral diseases have been attacking the humankind from time immemorial! The present malady, the raging spread of the coronavirus an over the world is posing a monstrous challenge to mankind!

Currently, it has been clearly established by the medical experts that the one main preventive measure to protect from coronavirus is the regular washing of hands.

Despite all these precautions, the prospects of infection of the coronavirus are strong in the case of the senior citizens with prolonged illnesses, diabetics, those with blood-pressure, and heart & lung-related diseases! Out of this, the chances are even more for the type-1 and Type-2 diabetics to be infected with the coronavirus.

A team of researchers from Switzerland, led by Lei Pang, have reported the details why the diabetic patients are easily infected after research on some severely affected patients and even dead patients.

In a research undertaken in China, it was found that a large number of dead patients were diabetics or having cardiovascular diseases.

Another research in China, research established that out of 173 patients, 41 had high blood pressure, 28 were diabetics and another 10 were affected by the diseases affecting the brain veins.

In a 3rd research, out of 140 coronavirus infected patients, 42 has blood pressure and 17 were diabetics.

In all the above 3 researches, it was found that the patients were taking the medicine - angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors.

It was also established that the coronavirus attacked the humans through a type of enzyme - angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) – which attacked the blood cells and entered in and also that this enzyme was produced by the various internal organs such as lungs, liver, kidney, and glands.

It was also specifically established that in the case of diabetics who consumed medicine which prevented the action of the enzyme, the production of this harmful enzyme was quite high!

It was also noted that the production of this enzyme was high in case of the high blood pressure patients.

Further the genes ACE2 present in diabetics may transform and start producing this enzyme.

Thus the researchers have established and recommendeded that an analysis must be carried out whether the diabetics can stop the usual medicines and use new ones!
