Posted on: 26/Aug/2020 1:49:32 PM
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has presented a status report on the various efforts undertaken in India for finding the vaccine for the coronavirus treatment.

In this regard, the Head of the ICMR, Dr Balaram Bhargava, informed the press reporters yesterday (Tuesday, 25th August):

“In our country, 3 vaccines are right now under various stages of testing.

England’s Oxford University, jointly with the Medical Company Ultra Zeneca, has created a vaccine. This vaccine is set to be manufactured and sold in India by Serum Institute (located in Pune, Maharashtra).  The testing of this vaccine is presently on the 2nd and 3d Phase, where it will be tested by administering to the human patients.

Regarding the vaccine prepared by the Bharath Biotech, it has just completed the 1st Phase. The vaccine has been administered to 375 individuals. Bharath Biotech is now all set to start the 2nd Phase of testing.

The 3rd vaccine in this effort in India is made by Zydus Cadila.  This medical firm has just completed the 1st Phase of testing by administering the vaccine to human patients. In this 1st Phase, the vaccine has been administered to 45-50 individuals. Now, this company is set to start the 2nd Phase of testing.

It is important to know the status of the various efforts on the vaccines. In these phases, the 1st dose of the vaccine is administered to the self-volunteers and then, after a period of 14 or 28 days, the 2nd dose of the vaccine will be administered. It requires a minimum of 2 to 4 weeks to test and establish whether the virus-fighting product has been created.”
