The rise in the Covid-19 cases in Chennai has led to increase in the pressure on the fever survey workers or FSW now.

Soon, these workers might come to the houses of the Chennai residents every day. Currently, these workers are visiting the houses in Chennai just once in 3 or 4 days.

The zonal level officials have put more pressure on these fever survey workers due to an increase in Covid-19 cases in Chennai city. The relaxation in the lockdown norms has resulted in increase in the cases now.

A North Chennai based fever survey worker pointed out about the instructions given to them. The worker spoke about how hereafter it is a must for them to bring atleast 5 symptomatic cases per week or else there won’t be any job for them as they would be removed from the rolls.

Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC and NGO’s have employed 12,000 fever survey workers. These workers have to visit 75 to 100 houses in Chennai everyday note down temperature, symptoms and pulse oxygen levels in a register.

A FSW belonging to the central region of Chennai stated that the workers have been asked to collect the details of those who have visited government or private hospitals for check-ups. The worker later spoke about how they would be pulled up if any symptomatic Covid-19 case from the area under their survey ends up in a hospital without them recording the person in their books.

It was brought out that many residents do not tell the workers about their symptoms and the officials do not believe when the workers return back to the ward offices mentioning the absence of cases in their areas.

Many complaints have been received about the workers filling up the temperature gun readings without visiting the houses and hence this pressure was put on the fever survey workers.
