The increase in the Covid-19 positive cases in Chennai city has not affected the positivity rates in the fever camps of GCC. There has been a steady fall in the positivity rates in the fever camps conducted by GCC.

In the first week of the month of July, the positivity rate was 31% and it came down to 19% in the first week of August. On 24th August, the positivity rate in Chennai touched 17%. Beginning from 8tyh of May 2020, GCC has been conducting many fever camps for the residents and as on Monday the number of fever camps was 37384.

Truth is as many as 20.39 lakhs people have attended these fever camps of GCC and as many as 1.18 lakh persons were identified with influenza like illness or ILI symptoms.

It is worth mentioning that of the symptomatic cases 1.15 lakh persons underwent swab tests and 19787 persons tested positive for Covid-19 infection and this is 17% positivity rate.

As many as 88247 samples were taken till 6th of August and the positivity rate was found to be 18% with16524 persons testing positive for the infection. On 7th of July, the positivity rate was32% and it was the highest ever and out of 37616 samples 10567 tested positive.

After touching a low of 7% on 8th August, the positivity rate in the entire Chennai city rose above 10%. This has shown that the trend present in the fever camps was different from that in the Chennai city. By reducing the caseload in Chennai, the fever camps played an important role and this was according to a senior official belonging to the Chennai Corporation.

He added that the fever camps in Chennai helped in identification of those with symptoms. By this, testing and isolation was possible. Finally, the spreading of the Coronavirus infection was prevented.
