Centre has asked the TN state government to cancel the e-pass system for travelling. It is now mentioned that Tamil Nadu would persist with this e-pass system till the end of August month.

Through a video conferencing process on Monday, a meeting took place. In the meeting, Mr K. Shanmugam, TN chief secretary, discussed with the department secretaries and collectors.

Truth is before doing away with the e-pass system, the TN state government was taking suggestions from various departments and agencies. The e-pass system is likely to continue until the end of this month. This was brought out by some sources.

Cancelling this e-pass system would lead to issues and this was as per Mr J. Radhakrishnan, health secretary. Tracing labourers would become a difficult task for the department and district administration has been highlighted by him.

Many inputs from the collectors were received by Mr Shanmugam during the video conferencing. These inputs were about the possible impacts of cancelling the e-pass system. There were some discussions regarding extending the lockdown beyond 31st August.

It is worth mentioning here that the meeting came in the background of communication from the Union Home Secretary, Mr Ajay Bhalla asking all states to lift restrictions on the interstate and intrastate movement of goods.
