More than 50% of Chennai population has developed antibodies against Coronavirus infection

It has been brought to light by a sero-survey from GCC and by the TN government that 50 percent of the Chennai population has developed antibodies against Covid-19.
A team of experts belonging to the National Institute of Research and Tuberculosis and ICMR had collected blood samples from 12000 people in Chennai city.
As per a source from the Chennai Corporation, the blood samples were collected from various sections of the population of Chennai and the samples were tested at National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis. More than 50% of the 12000 persons were found to have developed antibodies against Coronavirus infection.
The sources have highlighted that 50 % of samples were exposed to the virus without any symptoms. The survey report has been handed over by the team to the GCC and the higher officials are analysing the results. The results would be released soon.
It is worthy to note that sero- survey involves testing of the blood samples of the subjects for antigens and antibodies developed against the virus. The GCC would be able to assess the exact number of populations exposed to the virus and develop immunity against it.
