As many as 315 Covid-19 deaths were recorded from 4th August to 19th August and that was an average of 21 deaths per day. The data clearly highlighted that out of total 315 deaths 110 deaths or 35% were from zones like Adyar, Teynampet and Kodambakkam.

As many as 38 persons passed away in Kodambakkam due to this infection and 36 persons each from Adyar and Teynampet have passed away. Zones like Manali and Sholinganallur reported less number of deaths though they are located on the peripheries of Chennai. Once a Coronavirus infection hotspot, Royapuram zone recorded just 10 deaths.

Just a fortnight back, Teynampet zone had a fatality rate or CTR of 2.98% and it rose to 3.02% now. The data from the GCC has shown that the CFR in the Adyar zone was steep from 1.69% to 1.79%. As per a survey conducted by the corporation it was clear that Teynampet zone had many senior citizens and those with co-morbid conditions.

Important information is Adyar zone has the second highest number of senior citizens (77596), second highest number of persons with diabetes (18879). This Adyar zone has got the third highest number of persons with BP (9010). There are as many as 1390 heart patients in this zone of GCC.  There has been an increase in the cases in this zone in the last 10 days.

It was thought by some medical experts that GCC would be bringing a system to protect the senior persons but the fact is no such system was brought in. It is well known that fever camps of GCC have been successful in identifying those with symptoms of Coronavirus infection.
