The TN government had imposed complete lockdown in TN twice and this has successfully controlled the spread of Coronavirus infection. Many businesses in the metropolis were affected due to the complete shutdown but the spread of Coronavirus was slowed down. Doubling time has been increased.

From 26th April to 29th April 2020, TN government imposed complete lockdown 2.1 for a time of 4 days. This has been very effective as the doubling time began to improve in the Chennai city. This was according to 7 day CAGR or Compound Annual Growth Rate.

Doubling time was around 21 days on 16th of April and it came down to 7/8 days on 19th of April. This has forced the state to impose complete lockdown. For the next one week of time, the doubling time curve was maintained stable by GCC due to the complete lockdown imposed by the TN government. Later on, the doubling time began to improve to reach 15 days on 30th of May.

It has been brought to light by the data that the civic body was unable to improve the doubling time beyond 20 days for many days and Chennai city had fresh 1000 cases every day. It was at this stage the TN government announced another complete lockdown 5.2 from 19th June to 30th June 2020 and further extended it to 5th of July 2020.

Until 30th June 2020, GCC has managed to keep the doubling time curve stable. Important fact is beginning from 1st July onwards the doubling time curve began moving up to reach a doubling time of around 49 days on 24th July 2020.It must be remembered that Chennai city reported as many as 2392 fresh Covid-19 cases on 30th June and that was the highest ever single day spike since the outbreak of the pandemic
