Number of persons testing COVID positive everyday has SLOWED DOWN in Chennai city

Residents belonging to the Chennai city could feel a little happy now.

Over the last 7 days, the average growth of Coronavirus cases in Chennai city is at 0.1% in the negative. This has clearly shown that the number of persons testing positive everyday has slowed down.

The 7 day average on 25th July was 0.5% and it showed a very small increase in the cases after the daily cases fell down from about 2400 cases recorded in the first week of the month of July to 1100.

The point is since then Chennai has been recording 1100 to 1400 cases everyday Minor drop in the cases in the last week has been indicted by the date about the latest growth rate.

Negative or minus growth rate has been recorded from 7 GCC zones namely Manali, Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru Vi –Ka- Nagar, Anna Nagar, Teynampet and Alandur. Large number of persons have been getting discharged here after successful treatment and daily cases have become minimal.

Point is higher growth rate has been witnessed across other zones especially from south and central Chennai. This has made many officials belonging to the corporation sad and concerned now. A growth rate of 3.7% has been recorded in the Adyar zone and Sholinganallur has 2.9%. Zones like Valasaravakkam and Ambattur have growth rates of 4.6 % and 4.1% respectively.

In north Chennai, Madhavaram zone has the highest growth rate of 11.9%. It must not be forgotten that the government had shifted the wholesale market at Koyambedu to Madhavaram as Koyambedu became a hotspot. 

As per a zonal officer, rigorous testing from fever camps plus contact tracing of affected persons have resulted in more number of cases in the Madhavaram zone. 

He then explained that the case growth rate was just a temporary one and it would decrease once the vulnerable population gets tested and isolated.
