While the raging coronavirus pandemic is continuing its spread on one side, there is now another major anxious issue - the spread of dengue fever!

Subsequently, the Secretary of the Department of the health of the Tamil Nadu State Government, J. Radhakrishnan has sent cautionary instructions to the district administrations.

Around 2 Lakh cases with coronavirus infection have so far been recorded.  Due to this, all persons affected with cold/fever and symptoms have been quarantined throughout the state. In a similar way, testing is being done on a mandatory basis for those with fever.

In this situation,  as there are widespread rains throughout the states over the last 2 weeks, the breeding of mosquitoes has become more intense. As such, more than 100 persons have been affected by dengue fever and have been under treatment in the hospital.

As the symptoms for coronavirus and dengue are similar, the medical experts have informed that they are constrained to test these patients for both dengue and coronavirus! Apart from this, the patient who comes is first tested for coronavirus and test results are awaited.  Thus, 3 days are taken to identify whether it is dengue or coronavirus!

In this scenario, information is gathered that activities have been intensified to prevent the spread of dengue fever.

In this regard, Tamil Nadu State Government health Department Secretary J. Radhakrishnan shared:

“An advisory circular has been sent to all the district collectors, local administration heads, and the Health Department Officials to undertake all the preventive activities against the spread of dengue fever. They have been strongly advised to take all the preventive actions, and also to inform eh Health Department immediately whenever dengue, typhoid, or coronavirus is detected.

It has also been ordered that the staff who monitor the coronavirus spread must also monitor and prevent dengue as well. The government has sufficient stock of the medicines required for dengue fever. The public has to take all preventive action to ensure that there are no spreads of mosquitoes in their localities.”
