All residents belonging to 3 hot spots in Chennai to be tested for COVID infection

In the Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC, three zones namely Kodambakkm zone, Anna Nagar zone and Teynampet zone have got high positivity rate.
To bring down the positivity rate in the above said 3 zones, GCC would be testing all the residents of a particular street in these zones even if one person from there tests Coronavirus positive.
It was mentioned by Mr. G. Prakash, Chennai Corporation commissioner that the move would be aimed mainly at central zones belonging to GCC. In the north Chennai zones like Tondiarpet, Royapita etc, GCC has achieved a lesser positivity rate. Therefore, the above said move of testing all the residents even if one tests positive would not be needed.
Based on the situation, the civic body has been making changes in the testing methods in Chennai city. It must be remembered that in the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in Chennai all the family members of the infected plus their contacts and their extended contacts were tested. The residents belonging to the containment areas were tested randomly.
As per a sanitary officer, symptomatic contacts of the infected persons were given importance in the later stages as they were tested for Covid-19 infection in Chennai. Clear instructions have been issued to all the zones by headquarters to test all the residents of a particular street.
For mobilising personnel and equipment for collecting samples, the officials in the field have been working now. The vendors of the streets are also tested for Coronavirus infection if the streets report any positive case.
In the Chennai city, the positivity rate now is between 10 to 12% but the 3 zones belonging to central Chennai have got a high positivity rate between 20 to 22%.Information collected is around 60% cases reported in Chennai belongs to the 3 zones of central Chennai region.
