Plasma Bank set up in the Chennai Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital!

For the 1st time in the State of Tamil Nadu and for the 2nd time in India, Plasma Bank has been set up at a cost of Rs. 2.34 Crores and inaugurated in the Chennai Metro City Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
The State Health Minister of Tamil Nadu, Vijayabhaskar, inaugurated the plasma bank.
This Plasma Bank has been opened with an exclusive view for the benefit of the coronavirus infected patients. Plasma is taken from the blood of persons who have recovered from coronavirus infection. The patients, who recover completely after the coronavirus infection, can donate plasma 14 days after their full recovery.
Persons in the age group 18-60 are eligible to donate plasma. Persons with complaints of high blood pressure or diabetes cannot donate plasma. A maximum of 5000 ml plasma is taken from the eligible persons.
In the Plasma Bank set up in the Chennai Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, up to 7 persons can donate plasma at the same time. The donated plasma cells are being stored safely kept under a temperature of 40 Degrees Celsius.
The plasma is taken and saved/stores as above in safe conditions can be utilized up to a period of 1 year and can be used on coronavirus-infected patients.
There is a plan to set up the plasma treatment facility in 7 government general hospitals including the hospitals in Chennai, Trichy, and Thirunelveli.
On the day of the inauguration, 2 patients who had recovered from coronavirus infection, including the Paramakkudi Constituency MLA Sadhan Prabhakar donated their plasma.
The State Health Minister of Tamil Nadu, Vijayabhaskar appealed that the public (those who have recovered from coronavirus infection) should come forward to donate plasma.
The State Health Minister further informed that in case complaints are received about the hospitals that charge astronomically in lakhs of Rupees as a package treatment deal, immediate stringent action would be taken.
