Trial runs of Metro Line to start next year

With the deadline for the commission of the first line of the Chennai Metro Line, officials have announced that trials will begin on the Koyambedu – St. Thomas Mount Line mid of next year. According to reports, the line will run empty rakes of the metro rail to ensure safety of the elevated line.
Speaking at the Assembly , Tamil Nadu’s Finance Minister O. Paneerselvam said, ‘Chennai metro rail project is likely to be commissioned in three stages from mid-2014 and will be completed by 2015-end… About 75% of construction relating to elevated viaducts and stations,55% of the Koyambedu depot and 35% of underground stations and associated tunnels has been completed till March last.’
