The activity of taking online classes for school students of 10th Standard and +2 classes for the academic year 2020-2021 in Chennai Metro City Schools has been in progress.

With the participation/contribution from the private sector, the Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation Prakash informed that 5000 smartphones have been distributed to the 10th Standard students.

Various beneficial activities are being undertaken for the welfare and development of the students studying in the Greater Chennai Corporation Schools. As lockdown is presently in impositions as a preventive measure against the raging coronavirus, the students are not in a position to attend the regular school classes.

As such, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) decided to provide an online training/teaching facility to the students from the lower economic backgrounds with a view that the learning of the students is smooth.

As a means to execute this plan, 4890 smartphones were given to the students through the courtesy of some volunteer organizations, and a briefing was given to the parents of the students as to how to use them. With this, both the students and their parents are delighted as there is a provision now to study the lessons prescribed for the given month!

10th Standard and +2 Timetables

As the next phase, considering the facility for the students, a time-table was prepared for the academic year 2020-21 for the students of the 10th Standard and +2 classes from 1st June (Monday).

Subsequently, the day-wise details for every day during the month regarding the lessons to be taught have been handed over to the concerned teachers of the respective schools through the headmasters of the schools.

Through Laptop computers

The online teaching system is being monitored for progress through the Assistant Education Officer of the Department of Education whether it progresses as per the time-table given on various subjects/lessons. It is also planned to give the laptops to the 5220 students of +2 classes and to undertake the teaching/learning through these laptop computers.

For the 5000 students presently studying in the `10th standard in GCC Schools, smartphones have been given and the teaching/learning sessions are undertaken through them!

To face the Public Examination!

The Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation Prakash informed further that free internet connection facilities are also volunteered as per the appeal made by 350000 students of corporation schools studying in 10th Standard (the academic year 2019-20) in order for them to prepare for and to write the Public Examinations scheduled to start on 15th June!
