Social distancing maintained well in the TN trains due to less number of passengers

Posted on: 02/Jun/2020 10:31:21 AM
On Monday, inter-city train services resumed once again in Tamil Nadu. Important point is 8 trains were half empty. It must be noted that the occupancy was around or less than 50 percent on most trains.

Special desks at the railway stations have issued e-passes for the passengers for their further travel by road. It is known that the passengers must reach the station stipulated 90 minutes before the departure. In Coimbatore, the people started reaching the railway station even before this time.

The a/c coach of Coimbatore- Katpadi train was empty but the a/c coach of Coimbatore- Mayiladuthurai Jan Shatabdi train had many passengers. The confusion over e-passes has made many passengers not to turn up.

It was later explained by Mr. Chitti Babu, Coimbatore deputy station manager commercial that people have been allowed to travel even without their e-passes by taking down their addresses. Maintaining social distancing inside the trains was easy due to low occupancy.

Inside the trains, many families sat next to each other while a row in front of them was left empty. The situation was same in places like Trichy and Madurai etc also.

Trichy-Nagerkoil superfast special train had occupancy of just 35 % and Madurai-Villupuram intercity express had occupancy of just 22%. Information collected is Coimbatore- Mayiladuthurai express had just39% occupancy.

For the train passengers, Madurai district administration had arranged e-passes instantly but the rail users have made an appeal to the government to revoke the mandatory e-passes order. This was due to the trains travelling across various zones.
