Corona virus infection has been spreading like fire every day and to support the fight against this pandemic the corporation of Chennai had deployed as many as 40 sanitary inspectors. These inspectors have been drawn from other urban local bodies.

From various corporations like Tiruppur, Vellore, Hosur, Dindigul, Erode, Thanjavur, 40 sanitary inspectors were drawn. Some municipalities from where the sanitary inspectors were drawn were Pollachi, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Ooty and Pattukottai.

It is well known that zones in Chennai such as Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Anna Nagar, Kodambakkam, Teynampet, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar etc were badly affected. The sanitary inspectors have been allotted to these zones that have been affected badly by the Corona virus infection.

The number of positive cases has been comparatively less in Adyar zone and hence the sanitary inspectors have not been appointed in this zone in Chennai. Truth is the sanitary inspectors belonging to the Chennai Corporation could now feel much relaxed because they were overworked due to the shortage of staffs since the outbreak.

It is important to mention that the corporation must have 200 sanitary inspectors one for each division and 32 sanitary inspectors for issuing birth and death certificates. Point is presently, just 105 sanitary inspectors have been available and they have been overworking and overseeing operations in 2 or more divisions.

On temporary basis, the sanitary inspectors from other local bodies were appointed and once Corona virus spread is brought under control then they would come back again. In those divisions with vacancies, deputy sanitary inspectors have been allotted this was explained by an office source.
