Free face masks distributed to Chennai slums by Chennai Corporation

Around 650 slums in the Chennai city with around 26 lakhs people would get benefited by the free face masks distribution scheme of the Chennai Corporation.
On Thursday, 14th May 2020, GCC had started distributing free face masks to the slum residents in Chennai.
The free face masks distribution scheme was launched by the special officer for Covid-19 control in Chennai, Mr. J. Radhakrishnan. He gave face masks and hand sanitizers to the residents of Kannagi Nagar, Ezhil Nagar and Tsunami Nagar etc.
The release from the Chennai Corporation mentioned that more than 50 lakhs face masks would be given and all the slum dwellers would be given face masks. Mr. J. Radhakrishnan then inspected area where 27 Corona virus positive cases were reported and out of 27 cases 13 cases were confirmed.
Every day, there would be door-to-door survey in the tenements having 23,000 families and 150 employees appointed by the civic body would be conducting the survey. For the purpose of monitoring social distancing, special teams have been formed and the team would also coerce residents to use face masks. To create awareness among the residents, NGOs have been appointed.
Royapuram zone and Kodambakkam zone were severely affected by Corona virus and these zones were inspected by Mr. Radhakrishnan.
