North Chennai has been affected badly by the Corona virus infection and many places have been marked as containment areas.

The latest news is helpline numbers have been launched by the police officials now in places like Washermanpet, Flower Bazaar and Madhavaram police districts etc. This was done to prevent the movement of the people in the containment areas belonging to north Chennai.

The people in the containment areas of north Chennai do not follow the rules like social distancing etc and this has resulted in spike in the Corona virus cases here. It is brought out that curtailing the movement of the people was a huge challenge.

The special officer for north Chennai Mr. Mahesh Kumar Agarwal, ADGP, gave instructions to the DC of the 3 police districts to launch exclusive helpline numbers. The residents belonging to the containment areas of all the 3 police districts were issued pamphlets with helpline numbers plus dos and don’ts.

It has been pointed out by G. Subbulakshmi, DCP, Washermanpet that people in containment areas could report their grievances by call or by WhatsApp and police would resolve them quickly.

Non availability of vegetables/groceries, issues in the supply of water, entry/exit of people into the containment zones etc could be the issues that could be taken up. A police officer revealed about how assurance was given to a worker of a textile showroom about his job as he was concerned about losing his job if not reporting to work after 17th May. Truth is this worker had contacted the helpline.
