The news that railways would operate trains from Chennai to Delhi and from Delhi to Chennai on 14th May and 16th May respectively has become the talk of the town now. This was announced by the government of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

On Monday, Tamil Nadu chief minister, Mr. E. Palaniswami, had requested PM Mr. Narendra Modi not to resume the flight services and train services to TN until 31st May 2020. The bookings have been made and railways would operate trains only on these 2 dates.

It was mentioned by an official release that no other services would be operated and as many as 1100 passengers commute in the air-conditioned trains. Point is 15 pairs of a/c special trains are equivalent to Rajdhani Express. It was later brought out by the release that the TN CM had expressed concerns to Mr. Piyush Goyal, Union railway minister, over the resumption of train services.

It is important to note that CM had requested Mr. Piyush Goyal to quarantine the passengers by railways itself. This was due to the fact that air-conditioned coaches could result in Corona virus spread. According to the release, it was clear that all passengers reaching Chennai Central could be allowed to enter only after RT-PCR tests done on them. It also pointed out about the difficulty in testing all the 1000 plus passengers at the same time.

In 1 or 2 days, the passengers could be tested by the state government and this was as per TN chief minister, Mr. E. Palaniswami. He added that after getting the result the positive cases would be taken to hospitals and asymptomatic cases would be quarantined. Important point is Tamil Nadu CM had requested the union minister not to resume regular train services until the spread of Corona virus gets contained.
