To accommodate these non-resident Tamils, atleast 1600 clinically efficient rooms in 10 star hotels have been readied. The lock down began in the fourth week of March and was subsequently extended two times. Many workers, students and tourists belonging to TN have been stranded in different countries due to this lock down.

Information is around 50,000 Tamils mostly workers and businessmen from Gulf nations like Oman and UAE have registered on www.nonresidenttamil.org. This website has been created to facilitate their return.

In the next one week, around 2000 would return by special flights and the candidates were given priority based on the reasons they have mentioned. On Friday, the first flight from Malaysia would be landing in Chennai and it would have 500 persons from Malaysia.

The government official highlighted about the confirmation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Civil Aviation. He later explained that after landing in Chennai the non-resident Tamils would be tested for Corona virus and if found positive they would be sent to the hospitals. It must be noted that those who do not test positive would be kept in quarantine either at their homes or at any government facilities.

For the sake of accommodating about 70,000 people, arrangements have been made at Tambaram Sanatorium, Air Force station and at few other places.

It was brought to light that for those who need more privacy and better facilities rooms in 10 star hotels have been modified for quarantine services.

It was pointed out by Mr. Rupam Dutta GM of Feathers Radha Hotel at Manapakkam, that it would be non-contract process. He explained about how the restaurant would be closed and food would be provided in trays kept outside the rooms. There would be minimum laundry and other services for these persons in quarantine in the hotel rooms.
