Business in Mahabalipuram totally affected by Corona virus pandemic

Mahabalipuram near Chennai usually witnesses large number of people in the summer vacations. This time, Mahabalipuram is empty due to the Corona virus pandemic.

It must be taken into account that the restaurants in Mahabalipuram have been operating just for delivery purposes. It is now said that there is decrease of 40 to 50 % in the business here.

It was mentioned by a restaurant owner that people have become hygiene oriented and they were not utilizing the services. Truth is best hygiene practices have been followed here. He added that the forth coming summer season (peak season time period) would not be profitable as it was in the past.

The lack of patronage has resulted in losses in housing facilities, dormitories and other house rental facilities also face huge loss. There is still no information available regarding international travel and interstate travel and many fear the long term effects of shut down.

An owner of rented facility expressed his views. He spoke about how he has been maintaining boarding facility full time and how he did not get any income in the last few months. He explained about how most of his customers were foreigners and how the international travel would be the last facility to reopen due to safety reasons. Information gathered is water sports tourism, surfing has been affected here and there are no new customers at the surfing schools here.

A surfing coach pointed out that after the lock down gets lifted atleast people from Chennai would return for the surfing classes.
