SOP to be followed for restarting the industries in TN

Thermal scanners that would be present at the entry and exit points in the industries would be making their presence felt in a huge manner soon.

On Sunday, 3rd May 2020, the state government issued a detailed note about the SOP or Standard Operating Procedures that must be followed while restarting the industries in TN. It is well known that beginning from 6th May 2020 industries, micro, small and medium enterprises or MSME and construction work across TN would be restarted.

It is now revealed that as per the SOP the industries must have thermal scanners at the entry and exit points. In addition to this, the premises must be disinfected 2 times a day and the companies must ensure doctors visit/ make sure doctors are available on call all the times.

On Saturday, the state government allowed industrial establishments in SEZ, export oriented units, Information Technology IT or IT enabled services or ITES, hardware manufacturers, spinning mills, textile units and other units to resume production.

Sanitation at work places, wearing face masks must:
Chief Secretary, Mr. Shanmugam, issued orders on Sunday. The industrial units should not allow employees from containment zones to work. The industries must make sure that only medically fit employees with no co-morbid conditions are engaged. The order specified that all employees must wear the company ID cards all the time and everybody must wear face masks compulsorily when coming out of the houses.

The doctors must be available on call and this must be ensured by the workplaces having up to 200 employees. As per the order, workplaces employing between 200 to 1000 people must ensure that a local doctor visits them once in every 2 days. For the medical treatment of the employees, arrangements must be made with the nearest hospital by the firms that employ more than 1000 and the doctors must visit the workplaces every day. For transporting the employees, the companies must make arrangement and the vehicles should carry just 50 percent of the capacity. The SOP also brought out the use of disinfectants during the entry and exit into the vehicles.  

It is important that work premises must be disinfected and cleaned 2 times a day especially frequently touched surfaces. Important point is to prevent workers from gathering the work places should have a gap of 30 minutes between the shifts. Exception has been given to certain continuous process units. 

According to SOP, if a person tests positive for Corona virus then the deputy director of health services must be informed and close contacts must be placed in quarantine. For a period of 3 days, the work area must be disinfected and then put back into use.

For the construction activities, the SOP stated that the contractors or builders must make arrangements for hand sanitizing and ensuring staggered lunch breaks.
