Fruit & vegetable market in Thiruvanmiyur closed down as vendor tests positive for COVID-19

The fruit and vegetable market belonging to Thiruvanmiyur in Chennai was shut down as soon as a vendor tested positive for Corona virus on Sunday. 

It must be noted that on Sunday swab samples of 100 vendors were collected in a special camp and the results would be released on Monday. This was confirmed by senior officials.

Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC has published a data and as per the data it is clear that the market falls under the Adyar zone (zone 13) of the civic body that had registered as many as 27 cases as on Sunday morning. This 63 year old vendor belongs to Indira Nagar and the samples from other members of his family were also collected for testing.

It was later revealed by an official belonging to the corporation that the vendor must have got the infection from Koyambedu market as he used to go there for buying vegetables. Important information gathered is Koyambedu market is proving to be the latest source of Corona virus infection in Chennai and TN as more than 100 positive cases recorded till now. By Wednesday, Thiruvanmiyur market would be reopened and this was per some officials.

Point is the vendors would be de-centralized and moved to 5 different locations in the vicinity for the sake of social distancing. This market was spread across north and east mada streets in Tiruvanmiyur before it was closed on Sunday are known. Parking space of this market had shops and this was a month back.
