Ever since the CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority launched the service of mobile vegetable shops, a total of 193.5 tonnes of vegetables has been distributed in Chennai.

CMDA announced that the veggies would be sold through the mobile units on 8th April 2020.

An agreement was made between CMDA and online food ordering and delivering platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, Dunzo etc is known. Point is CMDA used its own vehicles for bulk booking and it has tied up with the Cooperation Department.

As many as 31 tonnes of vegetables have been issued through online platforms and the authorities on their own provided 108.29 tonnes for placing bulk orders.  For the sake of delivering 18 tonnes of vegetables, about 90 trips of vehicles were made on Monday. It was brought out by an official belonging to Housing and Urban Development Department that CMDA in association with the Cooperation Department had distributed 53.5 tonnes of veggies to the Chennai people.

The idea behind this service was to make the vegetables available for the residents at affordable prices due to lock down to contain the spread of Covid-19. The deputy chief minister of TN, Mr. O. Paneerselvam few days back reviewed the status of different arrangements made by different arms of the department in connection with Corona virus relief measures.
