TN CM: Preventive Ways from Coronavirus

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, E. Palaniswamy, has appealed to the public to avoid visiting other states in order to prevent the spreading of coronavirus.
  • As one of the precautionary steps, vacation has been declared for classes LKG, UKG, and all primary schools until 31st March.
  • The state government of Tamil Nadu has further ordered that all theatres and malls must be closed in 16 districts in the state.
  • China was the 1st country to be affected by a coronavirus. More than 3000 lives have been lost because of this coronavirus spread. This has spread globally affecting all countries. Thousands of lives have been lost so far.
  • Hence, all countries have been taking preventive action to avoid coronavirus spread. Coronavirus has started spreading in India as well! So far, 84 persons have been affected by a coronavirus. 1 person has been affected in the state of Tamil Nadu. He has recovered fully now. Still, the state government of Tamil Nadu has initiated various activities to prevent coronavirus spread.
  • An announcement released by the state government of Tamil Nadu yesterday (Sunday, 15th March) in this regard.
  • With a global emergency having been declared on the coronavirus spread, the WHO (World Health Organisation) has now announced coronavirus as a global infectious threat.
  • Due to the preventive measures undertaken bt the Tamil Nadu State Government, the spreading of coronavirus has not been that severe in Tamil Nadu, Despite this, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E. Palaniswamy has ordered the following preventive measures:
  • Foreign travellers arrive at the 4 major airports in the state of Tamil Nadu: Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, and Trichy. The central government has banned the entry of foreigners from some countries. Still. If a situation occurs where the Indians dwelling abroad need to return to India, they would be kept isolated fro 14 days as per the WHO guidelines and tested and treated with the facilities for the same set up near the airports to the extent possible.
  • In order to prevent coronavirus spreading from other states to Tamil Nadu, the Chief Minister has emphasised that all the monitoring centres located in the district borders with other states are to undertake and set up the monitoring/preventive actions and cleansing operations by the Revenue Department, Police Department, and Health Department officials jointly on a war-footing.
  • Summer vacation has been declared until 31st March for all primary schools in the state to the LKG, UKG and primary schools.
  • The theatres and malls located near the borders of the districts (which border with other states) Theni, Kanyakumari, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Niligiri, Krishnagiri, Tirunelveli, Thenkasi, Thiruvallur, Vellore, Tirupathur, Ranipettai, Erode, Dindigul, Dharmapuri, and Virudhunagar to remain closed until 31st March.
  • In order to trigger the preventive activities for coronavirus spreading, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has allotted the following amounts in Rupees Crores to various departments from the State Disaster Management Fund:
    • Health and Family Welfare - 30, Transport - 5, Greater Chennai Corporation - 4, City Administrations - 6, Panchayat Development - 5, directorate of urban administration - 2, Hindu Religious Endowment - 3, School Education and Higher Education - 2, Anganwadi Centres - 0.5, and D District Collectors - 2.5. The total is Rs. 60 Crores.
  • The Chief Ministered has ordered that the rural development, city administration and drinking water supply departments that cleaning activities are to be taken up earnestly in the theatres, commercial trade centres, and public gathering places such s temples, mosques, and churches in other parts of the state. A separate officer is to be appointed for this purpose.
  • The Chief Minister has ordered the Hindu Religious Endowment Officers and the health Department Officers to immediately create awareness in public places, especially the people visiting temples, mosques, and churches and to detect persons suffering from cold, cough, and fever and prevent them visiting the public-gathering spots. He has ordered the district administration heads and the senior Indian Administration Officers to closely monitor the various prevention activities undertaken.
  • Based on the emphasis by the central government to manage the coronavirus prevention activity expenses from the National Disaster Funds, the Chief Minister has ordered to undertake the coronavirus spreading prevention activities on a war-footing.
  • Further, The Revenue Administration Commissioner has been ordered to coordinate with all the relevant departments and implement the various coronavirus prevention activities undertaken throughout the state.
  • It has been ordered that daily reports must be sent by the district collectors regarding the preventive activities status to the Revenue Department Commissioner and the Revenue Department Commissioner must compile this status and present it as a daily status report to the State Health Minister and the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister has emphasised the State Health Minister to keep the media regularly informed on the progress of the coronavirus prevention activities. Further, the Chief Minister has appealed to the public to the following advice:
  • The public must avoid visiting other states and also avoid large public gathering for the next 15 days.
  • The senior citizens, patients suffering from illness, and children and the persons with no resistance to a fever must all avoid travelling in this period.
  • The public must scrupulously follow individual health; especially wash their hands often, especially while reentering the house after an outing.
  • Do not touch the face without washing hands.
  • The parents must monitor the children to prevent them from playing in large groups and also that they wash their hands with soap as soon as entering the house and also regularly do the same.
  • Every individual must keep it in mind that only if everyone undertakes the effort, it would be successful!
So, the public must cooperate whole-heartedly with the state government efforts and the public must admit those who have symptoms immediately must be taken to the nearest government hospital.
