With the global spreading of coronavirus and the resultant panic and also the fact the coronavirus has entered India as well with 107 persons affected and 2 lives lost, precautionary steps are being taken in stringent measures by both the central and the state governments.

In this regard, the Hindu Religious Endowment Board has emphasised certain precautionary measures to be implemented and strictly followed.

A notification in this regard mentions:
  • Scrolls and display notice boards must be displayed in the temples regarding the preventive actions to be followed to prevent coronavirus spread.
  • Detect devotees suffering from cold/fever/cough talk to them in a mild manner and convince them to go back! Special staff must be deployed by the temple administration for this purpose.
  • Disinfectants must be sprayed in all places where people touch.
  • Soap must be provided for the staff and devotees to wash hands.
  • The Archakas can avoid putting the ‘Viboothi’ (sacred ash) and ‘kumkum’ (vermillion) on the foreheads of the devotees.
  • It is advisable not to allow senior citizens, pregnant women, and parents with infants to enter the temple.
  • Apart from the devotional chants and songs, the coronavirus prevention measures can also be announced in the temple premises.
  • In case the temple’s most important annual festival occurs in the next few weeks, it would be advisable to organise the same in a simple manner and NOT with the usual hyped fanfare and grandiose!
