State Election Commission: Booth slips must be distributed before today (24th)!

The Tamil Nadu State Election Commission has ordered for the ensuing local elections that the distribution of booth slips for voting must be completed before today (Tuesday, 24th December).

Local elections are being conducted in 27 districts of Tamil Nadu in 2 Phases on 27th and 30th of December.

In the 1st Phase, elections will be conducted for 156 village administration Panchayats and in the 2nd Phase, it will be conducted for 158 village administration Panchayats.

231890 candidates are contesting in the above local elections.

There are 170898 contestants for village administration, Ward member posts and 35611 contestants are for the post of village administration council presidents posts. There are 22776 contestants for the posts of Local administration  Panchayat Ward member Posts and there are 2605 contestants for the district administration ward members posts.

Only 2 days are remaining for the campaigns for the 1st Phase local elections. So, an intensive campaign by the contestants is in progress.

Further, the State Election Commission is engaged in organising the arrangements for the voting. The State Election Commissioner Palaniswamy conducted a meeting regarding this with the 27 district collectors.  The Secretary of the State Election Commission Subramanian, The presidents of the Police department for elections Seshasayi, and Police Superintendent Kannammal participated in this review meeting.

Review of various activities related to the local elections such as:

  • Keeping all required items for the local elections ready
  • Preparing the map for the concerned region and forming groups and officers to be deployed
  • Preparing the list of polling booths where there are likely disturbances and sending the same to the State Election Commission
  • Arrangements for online monitoring of the elections
  • Setting up control rooms for district level and state level monitoring
  • Preparation of supplementary voters’ list
  • Keeping the vote counting centres in ready for operation mode
  • Deployment of supervisors to monitor progress/polling operation
  • Issuing appointment letters to the vote-counting staff
  • Arranging payment for the election-related expenses
  • Distributing Honorarium for the polling booths

Subsequently, the election commissioner ordered that the distribution of booth slips for voting to o the voters must be completed today (24th December). He insisted that the district collectors that appointment letters must be distributed to all those officers/staff in the 1st Phase of this local elections before 26th December.
