Chennai traffic police to be different now

Posted on: 28/Nov/2019 9:51:12 AM
Many of us would have seen traffic police in Chennai coming in a jeep warning people to remove haphazardly parked vehicles etc. The amazing news now is traffic police would be coming in a two wheeled self balancing personal transporter called Segway.

In the next few days, these new vehicles would be introduced and these Segways would be mainly used by the traffic police in the Marina Loop Road and in the pedestrian plaza in Pondy Bazaar.

It was later revealed by a senior traffic police official that as of now three segways would be purchased and depending on the success of these segways more orders would be placed.

Important point is these new vehicles would be fitted with siren, speaker and boxes to keep the belongings of the traffic police personnel. It is said that the traffic police personnel would be wearing body cameras and they would be going to Marina Loop Road and pavements for warning people to remove their vehicles. It was later brought out by a traffic enforcement police constable that many of them are finding it difficult to cover the lengthy stretches.

Point to be noted is the segway would be an ideal mode of commute for the traffic policemen. The stretch from Light House to Napier Bridge could be covered well by this new vehicle. Violations like haphazard parking of two wheelers and cars could be checked.

One superb piece of information is segways could turn 360 degrees easily. The police personnel would be trained to use these segways. It must be noted that the Puducherry police have already introduced segways.  In four police districts, special women squad would be launched for handling women traffic violators. The information is each team would have a sub-inspector and 4 constables and bikes would be provided to them for their transportation.
