Deepavali: to reduce the traffic congestion, heavy-duty and goods vehicle ban to enter Chennai!

The Chennai Metro City traffic police have banned entry of heavy-duty and goods vehicles to enter the Chennai Metro City from 2.00 PM to 2.00 AM in order to reduce the traffic congestion during this Deepavali festive season.

In a special public notification, te Chennai Traffic Police Department mentions:

‘As a higher number of special buses are to be operated during this Deepavali festive occasion, mainly in order to facilitate the public with an effort to reduce the heavy traffic congestion, the buses are o be stopped at the paces mentioned below and then only will be allowed to enter the Chennai Metro City.

The government transport corporation buses will stop at (Koyambedu) Vandalur overbridge, Irumbuliyur, Maduravoyal, Porur, Toll Plaza, Karthikeyan Nagar, MGR University, Nerkundram, Poonamallee bypass, and Dhoosanpower.

Vehicles in large numbers proceeding from other places towards Koyambedu will stop at Maduravoyal overbridge, Vaanagaram, ‘Yesu Azhaikkirar’ complex, Koyambedu overbridge, Koyambeduflower trade complex, and Koyambedu Police Station and then permitted to enter the Koyambedu Bus workshop.

Omnibuses will be proceeding from the stop at Koyambedu Market ‘E’ Road, reach Poonamallee High Road vis ‘B’ road and the move to Oorappakkamvia outer rin road (Nasrathpet) and then proceed to the respective destinations.

Omnibuses are banned at the Madhuravoyal bypass road and 100 feet road towards Vadapalani.

In order to reduce heavy traffic congestion during the Deepavali festive season rush, all heavy-duty vehicles and goods-carrying vehicles coming from Chingleput and Kanchipuram routes will be barred from entering the Chennai Metro City from 2.00 PM to 2.00 AM on 4 days - 24th,25th, 26th, and 28th October.’

Details of vehicles permitted during the above ‘ban’ period:
  • Vehicles taking the Chingleput route can proceed via the Vandalur bridge, Chennai Outer Ring Road, reach Nemiicherry CTH Road and then Padi overbridge and GNT Road Madhavaram round tana.
  • Arrangements have been made for the vehicles coming from Thiruvallur and Thirupreumbudhur can turn left at Nasarathpet and then via Chennai Outer Ring Road to Chennai.
  • Goods-carrying vehicles coming via 100 feet road, Padi can take the route by turning at the CTH Salai in the Padi overbridge junction.
  • Goods-carrying vehicles proceeding to Koyambedu from Poonamallee High Road will proceed via Naduvankarai junction and Nelson Manickam Road overbridge, and then Anna Nagar 3rd Avenue, Santhi Colony, Ambattur Estate Road, and Manthoppu.
  • The private vehicles located in the areas surrounding the Koyambedu Suburban Bus Station moving via E V R Road, Madhuravoyakl will take Naduvankarai junction, Santhi Colony, 13th Main Road, 2n2nd Avenue Road, Estate Road, Maanthoppu, and Vizianagaram.
  • The private vehicles proceeding towards Vadapalani will take NSK Nagar junction, Razak Garden, MMDA Colony, and Vinayakapuram.
  • Heavy traffic congestion is usual in section Tambaram-Perunkalathur during the festive seasons. So, the private vehicles proceeding to the southern districts  can take ECR, OMR, Chingleput, and Thirukkazhukkundram.
