The Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital has announced that the injection to control a blood clot that could lead to a stroke will now be given out for free. The drug costs up to Rs. 45,000 normally.

Speaking to the media, the Head of Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital said, ‘A person who has suffered from a stroke must be admitted in the Emergency ward within 3 hours. A scan will be taken immediately which will determine if the artery is blocked or has burst.

If the artery has burst, treatment is difficult but if it is blocked, an injection worth Rs. 45,000 will be given to unblock it. The patient will then be under intense observation for 3 days after which another scan will show if the treatment has worked. On an average, a patient can be back on his or her feet in a week.

The drug will now be given for free. It has been covered by the comprehensive medical insurance plan by the Chief Minister.’
