There is more demand for power in the CMA or Chennai Metropolitan Area now. The important piece of news that has come out is Tangedco or Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company would be involved in setting up of more substations so that disruption in power would be eased.

It is now revealed that this 5 year plan aims to put in place infrastructure works consisting of substations plus others such as land requirements, underground cable network and the equipment needed to be installed in these substations. A review meeting took place recently for Central circle, Chennai and in the meeting Tangedco has proposed to construct around 20 substations. This is mainly to meet the demands of the increase in the power demand in the Chennai city in the future.

The amazing information collected is in Chennai city the electricity demand is expected t reach 4000 MW in the next few years of time. The point is new substations of varying capacities would play a major part in easing the power disruptions. It was later pointed out by a senior official belonging to Tangedco that under the 13th master plan, as many as 20 substations including 230 kilo volt or KV of gas insulated substation and a 110 KV substation have been planned to be constructed.

It must be noted that the gas insulated 230 KV substation is planned to be built at Thanikachalam Road, 110- KV substation is planned to be commissioned at B&C mills on Cooks Road near Perambur.

There are many highly congested places in Chennai city and to improve the distribution network in these congested localities the electricity department has planned to construct as many as 18 substations of 33 KV Capacity. By this additional burden that is expected to arise in the coming years would be freed up.

The important information is for the uniform distribution of electricity loads, having as many as 33 KV and 11 KV substations would be of huge help and this was according to a senior electricity official belonging to Central circle. It is worth mentioning that 33/11-KV plants would come up at CIT Nagar 4th Main Road, Corporation Colony, Pudupet, Kannamapet, Egmore, Nungambakkam, Wallajah Road, Vepery and Foreshore Estate. Vacant lands are both difficult to locate as well as costly and identifying lands for constructing substations have become a painful issue. This was as per an electricity official. Now the electricity department has sought help from civic body for vacant lands.
