Anna University of Chennai to have climate studio

Anna University or AU, one of the premier educational institutes in Chennai is making news now. It is now revealed that a state-of-art climate studio would be set up at the Center for Climate change and Adaptation Research in Anna University.
The official belonging to the center spoke about how the climate studio would come up at a cost of Rs 2.5 crores and how it would boost the research in the climate change sector by using the latest technology. German Agency for International Cooperation or GIZ would play a huge role in providing funds for this climate studio in AU. This GIZ would be responsible for the assessment of the risks from climate change. It is important to note that a supercomputer has been purchased for this upcoming state-of-art climate studio of AU and it is now said that a building in the AU is getting renovated. It is from this building the climate studio would function.
To discuss the project in detail, team of officials belonging to GIZ would be making their present felt at the Anna University. According to Mr. Palanivelu, director of Center for Climate Change and Adaptation Research, only after meeting with the officials of GIZ a clear idea about when the climate studio would start functioning would be known. To create the weather forecasts, software SimCLIM and software used by UK meteorological office would be procured by the authorities.
The important information collected is behavior of the weather would be stimulated by the specially designed software and for this sake complex mathematical models would be used. Mr. Palanivelu later explained about how by using the information of the past weather, the future weather conditions would be predicted by the software. He added that a super computer would be used to run the hi-end software.
In the recent years the state of TN had faced few natural calamities like floods, hurricanes etc is known. The superb point to be noted here is this climate studio would help the researchers to make a complete long-term study of the possible natural calamities that would occur in TN or in other state in the future. As per Mr. Palanivelu it is clear that this upcoming climate studio would be superb in forecasting better rainfall status in TN and the climate profile of TN would be carried out in this studio. He finally hinted that this studio would act as training center for the government officials, policy makers in dealing with the natural calamities effectively.
