Work to build commercial intersection near Chennai Central Metro station begins

Plans to construct a commercial intersection near the Chennai Central Metro station by Chennai metro has been there since long time. The latest news that would bring happiness on many faces is this mega plan to build ‘The Central Square’ has started now. To construct a section of this project, L& T Geo structure has bagged the contract from the Chennai Metro. This company would construct three basements that would serve as a large car parking area plus as a foundation.

A bhoomi puja was performed and work has started now. This was confirmed by the officials of CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited. The amazing piece of information collected is this parking lot would have the capacity to accommodate as many as 1000 cars. By this many passengers who travel to Chennai Central railway station, the suburban station, MRTS station and Chennai Central Metro station would be highly benefitted. The point to be noted here is the construction of the parking lot would take another 2 to 3 years. The estimated amount that would be spent on the construction of Central Square would be Rs 400 crores. By this not only 4 stations would get connected but also there would be huge space for bus bays. The passengers would be able to switch from one mode of transport to other and there would be subways and extensive landscaping also.

Many residents of Chennai would be surprised to know that the major component of ‘The Central Square’ would be a 33 storey building and it would be built opposite to the Chennai Central Metro station. It is important to note that this building would be given out on lease for shopping plus for office space also.

According to an official of CMRL it is now revealed that after the construction of the parking lot the focus would be to get clearances from various authorities to build this 33 storey building. He spoke about how it would take time to get clearances and how the tenders would be floated for the purpose of construction. The official expressed his happiness regarding the construction of 33 storey building and said it would be a major landmark and it would be one of a kind in the city. It is worth mentioning that Chennai Central Metro station has 2 entry/exit units functioning. The point is in another short period of time 2 more entrances would be opened for the people.
