Lack of law and order is making the lives of Perumbakkam people difficult

Suburb in south Chennai, Perumbakkam is an important place and is making news for wrong reasons now. The truth is in this place ganga pedaling is going on plus the presence of predators in the dark corridors and roads are creating issues. As a result of these the lives of the residents of TNSCB or Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board tenements are now hugely affected.

Officials pointed out that the TNSCB had allotted as many as 6 houses in the tenements to be converted to police outposts. It must be noted that this needs a government order. The important point to be noted is the corridors are dark and the roads also do not have enough lighting. This has made lives happy for those who indulge in illegal activities like selling ganja etc. A woman belonging to Perumbakkam expressed her thoughts and said the police patrolling must be done regularly in this place.

The sad truth is the residents here have lost all the hope on the police personnel because just recently a 10 year old girl was molested by a 58 year old man here. After receiving complaints from the residents, the police did not take any action against the man who molested the girl.

Now the residents want an all women police station in Perumbakkam and they also want the TNSCB to install CCTV cameras so that the illegal and criminal activities could be brought under control or prevented. It was also revealed that by introducing police boys club and sports for the youngsters, the lives of many youngsters could be saved by not falling prey to crime.

The information gathered is the activities of few people were making the TNSCB tenements unsafe for women and children. Presence of high mast lamps plus gates in every block could make a difference as these could ensure safety for both woman and children. This was as per Vanessa Peter a policy researcher, IRCDUC or Information and Resource Centre for the Deprived Urban Communities. She then hinted that presence of more shops could make more people present in the street and it would reduce the crimes to great extent.
