The Directorate of Government Examinations or DGE has been bringing many changes in the examination system and these changes have been spoken by many. Private candidates of class 10 and 12 have been writing examinations in the October month is known. The Directorate of Government Examinations has now scrapped this October examination. According to the sources it is clear that the private candidates would be allowed to write examinations along with other candidates in the June and July instant exams. The candidates who could not clear exams in March alone could write the June or July instant exams and this is as per the existing method.

The director of government examinations, D. Vasundradevi expressed her views. She spoke about how the teachers were employed for exam work all through the year and how it affected their academic work. Since the number of students appearing for private exams is less, the private candidates would be allowed to write their exams in June/July. She then explained how for each class 40,000 to 50,000 private candidates applied for October exams. More than 2000 teachers would e involved in the exams. She later highlighted about the evaluation process for 4 weeks.

It is important to mention that works such as setting of question paper, printing the question paper and answer booklets, allotting exam centres and evaluating the answer scripts are same when compared to March board exams. In the March 18 lakh students appear for the important board exams. This was confirmed by the director of government examinations. The state government converted plus-1 exam to board exam last year and now 9 lakh regular students appear for the annual board examinations. She spoke about how 2 schools in each district for private examinations were allotted by the DGE. According to DGE, private schools would not accept to be the exam centres for the private exams as it would affect the academic works and the government schools were used as exam centres.

The director of government examinations, D. Vasundradevi later threw light on how for classes 10 and 12 the examinations would be conducted for a period of 2 weeks and how their answer sheets would be evaluated separately. The schools would not be able to function fully during the examinations. From this academic year, all private candidates must clear their plus- 1 examinations so that they become eligible to write their plus-2 board exams. This is due to the additional board exams introduced for plus-1 students.

As per the sources, conducting as many as 3 board examinations in just one and half months was difficult and impossible. This process would have to be repeated in October again and it would put pressure on DGE. The sources also pointed out about the breathing space that was needed for DGE.

Some officials belonging to DGE expressed their opinion and spoke about how clearing the October exam would not be of any help to the students as they have to wait till the next academic year. The officials also spoke about how the students could join college or polytechnics etc if they cleared in June/July exams. The move was criticised by section of officers and they spoke about how the private candidates would have just 2 months if they failed to clear the exams in March. Mr. S.S. Rajagopal who is senior educationist wanted the state government to hold discussioions before taking decision.
